Energy Type: Hydroelectic (moving water)
Source: Water
Sarah Stein
How its this energy transfered?

  1. Dams are built to trap water in
  2. Water is allowed to flow though tunnels in the dams
  3. Turns turbines and drive generators
  4. Electrons turn on and make the energy

How is this energy used today?

  • Water dams
~ Hoover Dam
~ Niagra Falls

Advantages
  • Energy is virtuall free
  • No waste or pollution produced
  • More reliable than wind, solar or wave power
  • Hydroelectric power stations can increase to full power

Disadvantages

  • Very expensive to build dams
  • Can flood a big area
  • Suitable site can be difficult to find
  • Water qualitie and quantity downstream can be affected
  • Can have an impact on plant life

This energy sorce is renewable. The sun provides the water evaporations from the sea.
